Police are appealing for information after claims a man made inappropriate comments to 12-year-old schoolgirl in Northampton's town centre.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police revealed: "An elderly man who was sat on a bench where Abington Street meets the Market Square, when he engaged her in conversation.

"The girl became concerned and told her older sister who then confronted the man."

Officers are investigating the incident — which happened at about 1pm on Thursday, June 25 — and would like to speak to anyone who may have seen it.

Any witnesses or anyone with information can call the Police on 101, using reference number 20000350202, or contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
