Police fear a man seen being dragged into a white van in Northampton on Friday has been kidnapped.

Detectives launched an appeal for information saying they were concerned for the welfare of a cyclist following a confrontation in Kingsthorpe village.

Two men were later arrested and released pending further police enquiries.

But officers now believe the cyclist, who was last seen wearing a black coat or hoodie, was dragged into a white van which then drove off from Green End at around 8.30pm.

All their investigations have so far failed to locate the apparent victim and officers have now issued a photograph of the bicycle left behind to go alongside CCTV footage of the rider in an attempt to find him.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police revealed: "Between 8.30pm and 8.40pm on Friday May 1 a man on a bicycle was involved in an altercation before he was dragged into a white van which then drove off.
