People breaking lockdown rules were sent back to their own homes after police visits in the north of the county over the weekend.

Emergency powers created to slow the spread of Covid-19 mean people should not leave their home unless their trip is for a select few essential reasons including exercising, shopping or for health purposes.

But at about 4pm on Friday (May 1) police were called to a block of flats in High Street, Rushden, after reports of multiple visitors at a particular property.

The occupants admitted they'd had visitors and were told they were breaking restrictions.

A day later, at about 2.45pm on Saturday, police were deployed to a home in Dresden Close in Corby.

They had received reports of multiple visitors and words of advice were given.

And then at about 3pm yesterday (Sunday) officers attended a home in Corby's Culross Walk after more reports of multiple visitors.

Those who didn't live there were sent back to their own homes.

The lockdown breaches came in the days after the devastating impact coronavirus had had on Corby and Rushden was made clear for the first time.

Government data revealed the Lodge Park area of Corby had been the worst-hit part of the steel town with four deaths.
