A paedophile living in Corby sexually assaulted a young girl before taking vile pictures of her.

Jaroslav Goberschitz, of Troon Close on the Priors Hall estate, admitted sexual assault, taking indecent images of a child and possession of a knife after police swooped on him in February.

The hearing yesterday (Wednesday) was held over Skype at Northampton Crown Court because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prosecuting, Ben Gow said the offences only came to light after Goberschitz was caught on CCTV.

When Goberschitz, 58, was arrested police recovered indecent images of the victim, which had been deleted, on his phone.

A lock knife with a 4in blade was also found in his car and he later admitted all charges facing him at a plea hearing.

Mitigating, Micaila Williams said: "He understands the long-reaching consequences of his actions."

Sentencing, judge Rupert Mayo said he agreed that Goberschitz is dangerous.

The paedophile was jailed for a total of eight-and-a-half years and will serve up to two-thirds in custody.

He will be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and on the register for sex offenders for life.

Goberschitz, who moved to the UK from Slovakia in 2011, is likely to be deported once his sentence is complete.
