Man wielded five inch long knife after trying to leave Northampton shop with a bottle of wine without paying

A man threatened a shopkeeper with a five inch long knife at Northampton convenience store last month after he was challenged for stealing a bottle of wine.

The robbery took place at around 8.55pm on Monday, January 4 when a man entered a Premier store in Queen Eleanor Road. He picked up a bottle of wine and concealed it under his jacket before attempting to leave the store without paying for it.

The shopkeeper, however, noticed and challenged the man. The offender reacted by pulling out a silver lock knife around five inches long and pointing it at the shopkeeper, who then retreated to the back office and called the police.

The robber subsequently left the store with the wine and ran off towards Playdell Gardens.

CCTV images have now been released of a man who officers want to speak to in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: "Officers are keen to trace the man pictured as he may have information relevant to the investigation. The man pictured, anyone who recognises him or who has information about the incident should call Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting incident number: 21000005926."
