Bruno Batista, aged 22, was caught on CCTV throwing a plastic bag over a fence of HMP Prison Onley on December 27 last year.

Northampton Crown Court heard that a prison officer opened the bag and found two Pringles cans, one containing 75 grams of cannabis and one containing 16 mobile phones as well as five sim cards and four USB charger cables.

Batista was identified from the CCTV footage and was arrested in June.

The court heard that mobile phones can be worth up to £350 in prison due to the difficulty in obtaining them.

Batista pleaded guilty to two charges of conveying an article into prison.

Recorder Oscar Del Fabro said illegally smuggling mobile phones and drugs into prison “undermined the prison regime.”

He sentenced Batista, of Norman Crescent, Hounslow, to two years in jail.
