A gang of shirtless yobs assaulted and robbed a man in Northampton town centre last Friday.

Detectives are hunting the group of "four or five" men in their early 20s after the mugging in St Giles' Street.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "The victim was assaulted by four or five men in their early 20s and robbed of his mobile phone between 4pm and 8pm on Friday (June 26).

"The offenders were all wearing shorts and no tops. One of them was of slim build, about 5'9 tall with blond hair which was shaved on the side and longer on the top. He had a freckled face.

"If anyone has any information which could help us, or saw these men in the town centre, please call us on 101 using incident number 20000329300 — alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
