A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Not satisfied with the damages caused he then used a metal pole to smash her car’s windows and the front door of the property, allowing him to gain entry knowing she was staying there.

"Once inside, Duffin dragged the woman in question down the stairs by her hair before forcing her into his vehicle and making off.

"A 999 call was made to the police by a friend and officers raced to the woman’s aid. They managed to stop the car and surround it in order for the woman to escape to safety.

"Duffin was Tasered at the scene due to his aggression towards officers and his attempts to drive off, and subsequently arrested," the spokesman added.

At Northampton Crown Court on March 18, Duffin pleaded guilty to kidnap, assault and two counts of criminal damage. He was sentenced today, Tuesday May 12, to four years and two months as a result.

Lead Investigator, DC Dave Scarth, said: “This was an absolutely terrifying ordeal for the woman involved in this case and I would like to pay tribute to my uniformed colleagues whose response to the initial 999 call was nothing short of fantastic.

“On that day in February, Duffin set out to scare this woman and put her through an horrendous experience. However, the incident was relatively short-lived due to the quick thinking of the attending officers.

“This woman has shown great courage in supporting and assisting our investigation every step of the way and she can be proud that her bravery in supporting a prosecution means Duffin is now behind bars and unable to commit further crime.

“I hope today’s sentence demonstrates how tirelessly Northamptonshire Police will always work in ensuring that we achieve such positive results for our victims and I hope Duffin uses his time behind bars to reflect on his choices in order to make better ones when he is released.”
