A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of fly-tipping in Doddington Road, Wellingborough this afternoon (April 24) with his white Ford Transit van seized by officers as well.

A police spokeman said: "In recent weeks, fly-tipping has become more of an issue in the town with waste disposal centres shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"However, police officers in the north of the county have been on the case and after some quick work today, a man suspected of running an illegal fly-tipping business was arrested using powers under the Environmental Health Act.

"He was also arrested under the Proceeds of Crime Act and for possession of cannabis."

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant, Scott Desrochers, said: “Fly-tipping really annoys the public in this county and rightly so - it is lazy and spoils the look and feel of our communities.

“We have been working closely with our partners to tackle this issue and today had a great result arresting a man we suspect is one of the people carrying out these illegal tips.

“We will continue working hard for the people of Wellingborough who deserve to enjoy where they live, without fear of fly-tipping eyesores.”
