Man arrested after woman, 78, is grabbed and robbed of her shopping bag in Northampton

Police are on the hunt for a man who robbed and hurt a 78-year-old woman in Kingsley Park Terrace, Northampton on Monday December 28.

The incident happened between 11.15am and 11.25am when the woman was walking outside the Kingsley Park Methodist Church. A man approached her then grabbed her arm - hurting her in the process - and then ran off with her shopping bag down Milton Street towards Junction Road.

A member of the public quickly came to her assistance and called the police.

The offender is described as a white man in his 50s, around five foot and six inches or five foot and eight inches, and of a slim build with greying hair and unshaven. He was wearing a brown coat, brown shoes and a grey beanie hat.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “Anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 quoting reference number 20000683055 or, alternatively, if you wish to stay anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”

A 64-year-old man from Northampton has been arrested in connection with this incident and released under investigation pending further enquiries.
