Man and his pet attacked by two dogs in Northampton park

Police are urging two dog walkers to come forward after a man and his Belgian Shepherd were injured in an attack in Upton Country Park, Northampton on Saturday (January 30).

The incident took place between 10am and 10.15am when the man and his dog were walking on the footpath from the direction of the Elgar Centre near to the wooden bridge.

They were approached by two dogs off their leads followed by a man and a woman, believed to be the dogs' owners. One of them asked if the man was happy for the dogs to be off their lead but then a fight broke out between all three dogs.

The incident left the man with abrasions to his knee and his Belgian Shepherd with injuries that needed treatment from a vet.

One of the dog walkers is described as a white man in his mid-fifties, around five foot and nine inches, of a stocky build, with a light brown goatee beard. He was wearing dark clothing and a dark beanie hat and he was carrying camera equipment along with a tri-pod.

He was accompanied by a white woman in her mid-fifties, who was also around five foot and nine inches with dark coloured shoulder-length hair. She was wearing dark clothing and wearing a light blue bobble hat.

The couple had two dogs - one of them is described as being short and stocky, similar to a Bull Dog, with dark fur and wearing a harness. The second canine was a dark coloured mongrel with patches of white.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: "Officers investigating the incident are appealing for the dog walkers or anyone who may recognise the description of the couple of dogs, to get in touch."
