A 33-year-old Londoner has appeared in court charged with numerous courier fraud offences after a Northamptonshire pensioner was targeted by tricksters.

Jay Robinson Minz, 33, of Tower Hamlets, was remanded in custody in connection with an incident last Wednesday (September 2) when a man who pretended to work for Nationwide Building Society phoned a man in his 80s and told him that he needed to give £3,500 to the Fraud Department.

A courier was booked to collect the money from the elderly victim the next day at his home in Harpole.

However police officers were waiting at the address and a suspect was subsequently arrested.

Minz has been charged with conspiring to commit fraud by false representation, possession of criminal property, receiving stolen goods and possessing an article for use in fraud.
