An attempted robbery by a man armed with a knife at a Kettering supermarket was foiled when a member of the public stepped in and pinned him to the floor.

The incident happened at about 5.20pm on Sunday at the Co-op food shop in Grange Place, off Stamford Road, in Kettering.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “A man entered the shop armed with a knife and made threats towards staff.

“A bystander intervened and pinned the man down. No-one was injured in the incident.”

Police say a 38-year-old man was arrested.
