It is alleged that Steele, of Mill Road, attacked a man shortly before an incident which saw Hayley Louise Adams, 37, die at the scene.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murdering Hayley but was later released with no further action and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death.

Steele appeared at Northampton Crown Court today (Wednesday) for a plea and trial preparation hearing, but he was not arraigned.

The case was adjourned to the week commencing October 26.

Steele was remanded in custody until his next appearance.
