Nearly 2,000 people in the north of the county were caught without a television licence in 2012, new figures show.

More than 520 people in Kettering and about 630 each in Wellingborough and Corby were found to be evading the licence fee.

Mark Whitehouse, TV Licensing spokesman for the East Midlands, said: “The data released today shows evasion remains at historically low levels of approximately five per cent, with the overwhelming majority of people ensuring that they are correctly licensed.”

A colour licence is £145.50.
