Thieves broke into the Steelmen’s club in Corby just hours after the team was relegated.

Corby Town was dropped from the Blue Square Bet North after a 0-0 draw with Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday (April 27).

Between 11pm and 8.30am on Sunday, thieves got into the building at Steel Park after smashing first floor windows.

They stole the till and its contents, two flat screen television sets and alcohol from the supporters’ bar.

A gas cylinder was used by the thieves to smash their way into the administration office which was ransacked.

The break-in was discovered by members of Corby Athletic Club who turned up for a meeting on Sunday morning.

A room the club uses in the building was also damaged but nothing was stolen.

A spokesman for Corby Town said a minimum amount of cash is kept in the premises which has an alarm system and CCTV cameras.
