Gang armed with crowbars try to steal safe from Kettering supermarket
A gang fled empty-handed after trying to remove a safe from a Kettering supermarket on Christmas Eve.
Police have launched an investigation after the incident at the Tesco Extra in Carina Road between 10.40pm and 11pm, just hours after the store closed for Christmas.
The group - which a police spokesman said was believed to involve five people - broke into the supermarket through a security door using crowbars.
They tried to remove a safe, causing damage in doing so, but were unsuccessful and left.
A police spokesman said: "The offenders are described as all wearing black hoodies - except for one who was wearing a blue hoodie - balaclavas and black or dark grey tracksuit bottoms.
"A silver Audi saloon was seen to be acting suspiciously in the area around the time."
Witnesses or anyone with information should contact police on 101 and quote 19000688093 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
A Tesco spokesman said: “We are actively supporting the police with their investigation following an incident at our Kettering store. The store is open as normal and serving customers.”
