Fugitive Kettering burglar spared from prison

A burglar who went on the run when he was taken to court has been spared from an immediate prison sentence.

Abbas Ahmed, 28, was wanted by Northamptonshire Police's burglary team when he failed to appear before magistrates in March.

But he was finally caught after almost six months at large and admitted burglary after an incident in Kettering last year.

Ahmed, formerly of Bonham Court in Kettering but now of Willenhall, near Coventry, burgled a home in Leatherland Court just off Carrington Street on July 16.

Once inside he stole a black Sony Xperia phone worth £280.

Magistrates told Ahmed his four-week prison sentence would be suspended for a year.

He must pay compensation of £280.
