A convicted sex offender from Finedon is being held on remand after failing to tell police he had stayed with a child.

Peter Carmichael, 37, is on the register for sex offenders, a measure designed to monitor those convicted of a sex crime by keeping tabs on where they are staying, who they are staying with and where they are going to try and prevent future offending.

Breaching the requirements of the register is a crime in itself and is punishable by a spell in prison.

On April 13 at Wellingborough Police Station Carmichael - who also goes by the name of Darren Coopland - failed to meet the requirements and was hauled back before the courts.

Earlier this month at Northampton Magistrates' Court the sex offender, of Church Street, admitted two charges of breaching notification requirements.

He pleaded guilty to failing to tell police that he had stayed at a house for 12 hours where a child resided.

Carmichael also admitted failing to tell police of an address where he stayed for seven days or more.

Magistrates remanded Carmichael into custody ahead of his sentencing, which is due to take place at Northampton Crown Court on June 5.
