Eight teenagers were held in custody last night after being arrested in connection with a violent attack in Northampton that left a woman in a critical condition.
A police spokesman said the arrests throughout yesterday followed an attack in Harefield Road some time between 10pm and 11.30pm on Monday night (July 18).
“During the course of yesterday, Northamptonshire Police arrested a number of suspects in connection with the attack,” he said.
“All are male and live locally to the area.
“A woman was taken to the University Hospital Coventry for intensive medical treatment following the attack. She remains in a critical condition,” he added.
A male victim, who was also suffered injuries in the assault, was treated at the same hospital, but was medically discharged on Tuesday.
A team of at least a dozen detectives are working on the investigation and they will be questioning those in custody later today (Wednesday).
Detective Inspector Adam Pendlebury, who is leading the investigation, said: “We have had officers in the area all day today to provide reassurance to the local community and gather any information people may have.
“We are still appealing for witnesses to come forward at this time.”
