Driver punched in the face and had his car stolen after being attacked by three men in Northampton

A man was punched in the face and had his car stolen after a vehicle containing two men swerved in front of him and stopped.

The 36-year-old man was driving along Eastern Avenue North between 10.30pm and 10.45pm on Monday, in the direction of Eastern Avenue South, when a blue people carrier pulled out in front of him, causing him to brake sharply.

The front seat passenger of the people carrier got out of the car and walked towards the victim’s car, spoke to him through an open window and then punched him in the face.

The victim got out of his car at which point the driver of the people carrier joined his passenger in further assaulting the victim as he was trying to run away. A third man also became involved in the assault on the victim.

Members of the public intervened, coming to the victim’s aid, at which point the three men drove off in both vehicles, the blue people carrier and the victim’s car.

The victim suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital. The incident took place near the junction with Newnham Road.

The driver of the people carrier is described as a white man, of slim build, around 5ft 10ins and between 25 and 30, with short hair.

The passenger who first assaulted the victim was a white man, of muscular build, about 25 and was wearing a cap.

The third offender was also a white man and wore a maroon jumper and had a large brown dog with him.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have any information regarding it.
