A huge pile of rubble has been dumped in the middle of the road outside Broughton.

Wellingborough Road, on the back road to Pytchley, looked more like a building site than a road for vehicles yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

Andy Pullen spotted the discarded waste which includes bricks and plastic tubs and is just 50m from the crossroads which are closed off for maintenance.

It's believed those responsible drove through the road closed sign to dump it on the country road.

Andy said: "It's shocking but at least some poor farmer hasn't ended up with the job of dealing with it this time as they usually dump it in gateways."

Cllr Jim Hakewill (Independent), who represents the Slade ward, said: "I share the anger of residents in relation to this sort of fly-tipping.

"There is no doubt that over the last few months that the number of incidents like this has increased.

"It does concern me that the borough council is not putting enough resources into identifying the criminals doing this as every single resident has to pay through their council tax to have it removed."

He added that fly-tipping left on a road can risk serious injury or even death if a motorist hits it.

A Kettering Council spokesman said: "The fly-tipping incident in question is located on a stretch of road currently subject to closure by Northamptonshire County Council to allow for structure maintenance.

"Our environmental wardens have investigated the debris but found no evidence to enable them to identify the culprits. The site is in the process of being cleared.

"Kettering Council takes fly-tipping offences very seriously and will prosecute offenders wherever possible.

"Fly-tipping not only blights neighbourhoods but costs time and money to remove it - resources that would be better spent elsewhere. We encourage members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly in our rural areas, and we urge them to report any suspicious fly-tipping activity to us by calling 01536 410 333 or online at www.kettering.gov.uk/flytipping."
