A Kettering restaurant has been hit with a fine for hosting a function which breached coronavirus rules and led to a brawl.

Sedir, in Montagu Street, was investigated by police and council officers after an incident which saw seven police cars and a dog unit called to the scene just before 6pm on December 9.

The Turkish restaurant had been hosting a family function - which the Northants Telegraph understands had between 15 and 30 people in attendance - when a fight erupted.

During the incident a 29-year-old man was attacked by three other men and hit with an ashtray, before being taken to Kettering General Hospital with a head wound and visible bruising.

A 28-year-old woman suffered minor injuries but nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident and a police investigation remains 'active', a force spokesman said.

Kettering Council has since confirmed that Sedir has been given a £1,000 fixed penalty notice under emergency coronavirus powers for breaching restrictions.

A police spokesman said no personal fines have been given at this time to those who attended the function.

The street was taped off between Silver Street and Eskdaill Street and a police presence was seen in School Lane in the hours after the attack.

One nearby business owner, who did not want to be named, said his staff had been told not to leave the premises while police dealt with the incident.
