"This county is not easy pickings." More drugs busts in north Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire Police have had another busy fortnight as they continue to tackle crime in the county.

Over the last two weeks, officers have found three cannabis factories, executed warrants and arrested criminals.

Superintendent Dennis Murray, the police officer in charge of north Northants, said: "Criminals are being given a clear message that they are not welcome here, that this county is not easy pickings and that we are onto them and ready to bring them to justice.

"One of the best weapons we have is our community and they won't tolerate crime.

"It is the information we are now regularly receiving from them that allows us to secure and execute these warrants and this partnership is only getting stronger as they see more and more good results."

The first of the three cannabis factories was discovered on June 22 when a warrant was executed at a house in Rock Street, Wellingborough.

Police seized 110 cannabis plants and arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of being involved in the production of the Class B drug.

The following day, police found another cannabis factory in John Gray Road, Great Doddington. Officers seized 46 plants.

The third cannabis factory was found in a six-bedroom home in Denford Road, Ringstead. The huge factory housed up to £500,000 worth of plants which were seized and a 48-year-old man, Hai Huy Tran, of no fixed abode, has been charged with producing cannabis.

Police dismantled the factory and the fans were donated to KGH and the compost, bamboo canes, water butt and fertiliser was donated to the local allotment society.

Police have also arrested a number of individuals in connection to crime.

Robert Stuart, 19, of corby, was charged with possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs after police executed a warrant was executed in Samuel Place, Corby and a large quantity of Class A drugs, cannabis, and cash were all discovered.

It's not just drugs being tackled by Northamptonshire Police, on June 29 an investigation was launched after a shocking incident in Finedon when two men were hospitalised after being beaten with a walking stick in their own homes before the attacker made off with stolen money.

Ian Courtney Moore, 47, of Thrapston Road, Finedon, was charged with robbery and grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident.

The last arrest in Supt Murray's round up was Andru Jay Burgess, 20, of Corby, who was charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker after officers were spat at in custody on June 23 and told to "enjoy Covid-19".

Supt Murray said: "Since October 2019, we have executed 82 warrants in north Northamptonshire and we have absolutely no plans to take our foot off the gas.

"The energy and determination across Northamptonshire Police is at an all-time high and this is reflected by the good results that keep coming in."
