A man from Corby has been bailed by police investigating an alleged threat of violence made on Facebook against a former Birmingham city councillor and leader of the Respect party.

West Midlands Police arrested a 37-year-old man from Corby on Saturday (June 8) after a complaint made by Salma Yaqoob.

A police spokesman said the arrested man, who was held on suspicion of making malicious communications, has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Ms Yaqoob posted a screenshot of the alleged threat on her Twitter page last week following her appearance on the BBC’s Question Time programme.
