Lee Stewart from Corby.

A bigamist from Corby has been warned he could be jailed after he married two women - and produced a fake divorce certificate to try and cover up his lies.

Lee Stewart, 55, admitted bigamy and committing an act with intent to pervert the course of justice at Northampton Crown Court today (Wednesday).

He was already married to another woman when, on November 13, 2017, he tied the knot to his second wife.

Police opened a bigamy investigation and Stewart, of Herford Close on the Danesholme estate, then produced an American divorce certificate stating he was no longer married to his first wife.

But that certificate was false and Stewart found himself facing further prosecution.

No further details of the case were heard at court today.

Stewart's second wife was seated in the public gallery.

The bigamist, who was wearing a suit, green shirt and face mask, was granted bail so a probation report could be carried out ahead of his sentencing next month.

But judge Rebecca Crane warned him: "This is no indication of the type of sentence you will receive.

"All options, including custody, remain open to the court."
