Nigel Farey, aged 52, was made the subject of a sex offenders’ ordere after he was convicted of downloading indecent images of children in 2003.

As part of the order, he was told to disclose any electric devices to police officers who carried out regular visits to his home address.

Northampton Crown Court heard Northants Police were alerted to the fact that Farey had set up a Facebook page entitled “schoolgirls”, which included comments of a sexual nature.

The police were tipped off by a BBC journalist who had been working on a story about paedophiles setting up secret Facebook pages.

Jonathan Dunn, prosecuting, said officers visited Farey’s home address in April this year and they seized three mobile phones and 10 memory cards.

The phones contained hundreds of indecent images of children, including 120 of the most serious level A, 49 level B and 151 level C.

Officers also found 120 images of extreme pornography and 338 prohibited images.

A month later, police returned to Farey’s address and arrested him. They found another mobile phone which also had more indecent images of children.

Recorder Martin Hurst concluded that Farey was a “significant risk” as there was a “sinister” nature to his offending.

Farey, of Oxford Road, Corby, was sentenced to two years in jail plus an extra two years on licence. He was made subject of another sex offenders’ order banning him from owning any electronic device capable of accessing the internet without permission of the police.
