Burglar tricked elderly Northamptonshire woman by pretending he needed help

Burglars sneaked into an elderly Northampton woman’s home by pretending to need directions.

A man knocked at the door of the woman’s house in the Spinney Hill area at about 2pm on Tuesday, September 29.

First, he asked her for some water for his car, which he claimed had broken down, then he asked for directions to the hospital.

While he distracted the woman, his accomplice sneaked into her house and stole her purse.

The man who distracted the woman was white, aged between 28 and 32, about 5ft 9ins and slim. He spoke with an accent which may have been Spanish.

He had short dark hair, some facial hair and was wearing smart black trousers, a long white shirt, dark shoes and possibly a black tie. He was also carrying a black clipboard.
