Benefits cheat claimed £18,000

A BENEFITS cheat has admitted conning the system out of more than £18,000.

Angela Blackford, 29, of Cardigan Place, Kettering, appeared in court on two charges of failing to notify the town’s council that she was living with her husband.

Kettering Magistrates Court heard this would have affected her housing benefit and council tax benefit.

She pleaded guilty to claiming benefits by saying she was a lone parent between February 2008 and February 2009, and again between April 2009 and September 2010.

The total she claimed was £18,417.

The defendant, who has six children, claimed the maximum allowance for council tax and housing benefit.

The court heard that she has already made arrangements with the council to start paying it back.

She will be sentenced on March 15.
