They heard Mr Goldsmith, breathing heavily, say: “I need police... I need police... I need police first and ambulance second, please.”

After taking the address, which was Wootton Hall Park, near Northamptonshire Police headquarters, the female operator asks what has happened.

Mr Goldsmith replied: “My wife’s tried to kill me.”

After dispatching a vehicle, the operator asks with Goldsmith was injured.

He replies: “I think she’s dead.”
