Attacker uses golf club in attempt to beat woman at Northampton bus stop

An attacker used a golf club to attack a woman while she was waiting at a bus stop in Northampton on Tuesday morning.

Detectives revealed the 29-year-old victim managed to avoid being hit by the swinging club before fleeing as the offender then tried to grab her.

An urgent appeal for witnesses has been launched following the assault — which happened in broad daylight at a stop in near the Abington pub in Wellingborough Road on Tuesday morning (June 30)

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The woman was waiting at the bus stop between 11am and 11.30am when she was approached.

"The man pulled a golf club from a bag he was carrying and tried to hit her. She moved out of the way and he then tried to grab her, but she escaped and ran away.

"The offender is described as a short black man wearing a blue and black bandana across his face, a black top, light-coloured jeans and carrying a large white rucksack."

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the attack is or saw anything suspicious in the area to all on 101 using incident number 20000333539— or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
