Cricket club near Kettering to host charity match in honour of loyal supporter

Weekley and Warkton Cricket Club fan Sue Eden’s family have been involved with the club for generations.

The club will now host a charity game on August 28 to raise money for the Cransley Hospice and a new pavilion, which they applied for planning permission for last month.

Club chairman Colin Issitt said: “Sue’s family have been connected to the club for generations and the committee and her family felt we should play a game in her memory over the course of this season.

“Throughout the afternoon and evening the club will be running a bar and BBQ and proceeds from the event are to be split between the Cransley Hospice and the club’s new pavilion, scheduled to start over the closed season.

“The club hopes to see a strong attendance from club supporters, former players and friends and family of Sue.”

If plans are approved, work at the club’s Boughton Park home in Weekley could start in the autumm.

Andrew Bussey, who is co-ordinating the club’s pavilion project, said: “We have been working on funding for a new pavilion for several years but all now looks promising for a start in autumn 2016.

“It’s a complete demolition and rebuild to current ECB standards and costs will be in excess of £100,000.

“The club has three adult Saturday sides, midweek and Sunday teams and a buoyant youth section and we’ve been able to make many improvements to our facilities in recent years and the pavilion is a further step that secures our future as an important club in the local area.
