Credit union offering debt advice during festive period

Corby residents are being urged to take advantage of a credit union access point opened earlier this year, rather than turning to payday loans or loan sharks during the festive period.

A Corby Council spokesman said: “The council opened a Northamptonshire Credit Union Access Point in the Corby Cube, allowing residents easy access to a more ethical loan scheme. The access point gives information and advice and acts as an easy paying in point.”

Council leader Cllr Tom Beattie, said: “It is understandable that people turn to high interest payday loans. However this can be the start of debt that can spiral out of control.”

The access point is open 10am to midday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday and midday to 2pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
