Crazy Hats Walk Awards 2013

The founder of the Crazy Hats charity has paid tribute to all who were involved in a moving awards night following the rearranged sponsored walk.

The charity held its annual walk last week, after snow forced organisers to postpone the event in March.

And the awards, which included a host of prizes from the oldest participant to the craziest hat worn by a dog, took place at Wicksteed Park in Kettering on Tuesday.

Glennis Hooper, the charity’s founder, said the evening had been a huge success.

She said: “The atmosphere was just like the walk but drier.”

She also said sometimes people’s efforts were not always recognised, and added: “Thank you to everybody who did the walk.

“Many congratulations to our winners, but really everybody was a winner. It was so inspiring. People want to support it, they want to help. It’s quite awesome for us – we get home and think, ‘Wow’.

“There were some very moving stories which touched the hearts of everybody.

“Yes, we have to raise money, but when you get like-minded people together and they feel comfortable in sharing their stories it’s lovely. That’s what the charity is about.”

Miss Hooper also thanked Wicksteed Park for hosting the walk and the awards, adding: “Without their support it wouldn’t have happened.”

The date of the next Crazy Hats walk has already been set for Sunday, April 13, 2014.
