The Falcon at Fotheringhay has been named as the county’s best dining pub in the Good Pub Guide.
Published this week the 2013 edition is divided into counties so you can easily find the best pubs wherever you may be.
Every county has an annually updated shortlist of main entries which have all been fully inspected and carefully selected to warrant their place.
From this rigorous process one pub is picked as County Dining Pub of the Year - and Northamptonshire’s Dining Pub of the Year is The Falcon at Fotheringhay, run by licensee Sally Facer.
An extract from The Good Pub Guide 2013 states: “Readers have only praise for this beautifully kept, civilised pub.
“Staff here are exceptionally friendly and polite, creating a delightful atmosphere for the good inventive food they serve.
“Everything is neatly turned out, with lovely views of the vast church behind, and an attractively planted garden.
“They have a thriving little locals’ tap bar and a darts team and a very good range of drinks; three changing beers on handpump, good wines, Aspall’s cider, organic cordials and fresh orange juice.”
Fiona Stapley, joint editor of The Good Pub Guide, said: “People love eating out at pubs as opposed to restaurants because the atmosphere is more informal – and the food is just as good, if not better.
“This year particularly, pub chefs have to offer not just imaginative dishes but those their customers feel are fair value too.”
Fiona added: “We have thousands of loyal readers who report to us all the time.
“They keep us in tune with how a pub is doing and we take their comments into serious consideration when choosing an award-winning pub.
“Although things are looking much brighter for pubs, it’s extremely hard work for the landlords and landladies.
“An award-winning pub has to be at the very top of its game to be chosen.”
