CORBY Council has welcomed a £500,000 investment in the town centre.
Helical Bar, the firm which owns Corby town centre, has begun carrying out the works to bring the town centre up-to-date.
Last week work started in Corporation Street to remove the steel canopies.
Cllr Tom Beattie, leader of Corby Council, said: “We have a great working relationship with Helical Bar and they are showing that they definitely have the same directions and aspirations for Corby as we do.
“Work on Corporation Street will certainly enhance the whole shopping experience in Corby and will complement the modern Willow Place. This is great news for our town and shows that we are continuing to move forward.”
Works are also being carried out in Market Walk to allow development on the site.
Duncan Walker, Helical Bar’s investment director said: “These are the first of a number of exciting plans we have for the town centre.
“Our goal is to promote Corby as the shopping centre of choice in the region for retailers and customers alike.”
