Corby youngsters have been learning about the dangers surrounding alcohol.
Corby Council’s community safety team and the Jam Team from Groundwork Northamptonshire taught Year 8 youngsters at an alcohol awareness session last week at Lodge Park Academy.
The workshop was held as part of the Community Alcohol Partnership’s (CAP) school activity programme, Talk about Alcohol.
A presentation from the Jam Team about the consequences of deciding to drink was followed by various group activity sessions including games which revealed how exposed to drinking we all are through friends, the media and other sources, discussing the reasons why people choose to drink or not.
The sessions also included manoeuvring around obstacles and attempting to pick up items while wearing ‘beer goggles’.
Leader of Corby Council Cllr Tom Beattie said: “Delivering alcohol awareness sessions to young people is less about telling them exactly what they should and shouldn’t do, but more about providing them with the right information to make informed choices.
“Hopefully through these sessions more young people will take on board the importance of being sensible when it comes to alcohol.”
