Students at Lodge Park Academy in Corby are preparing to receive world class mentoring from professional athletes in a new scheme launched by the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
The On Track to Achieve programme aims to understand the barriers that young people face to access support in hard to reach areas.
Founder and president of the trust, Dame Kelly Holmes, said: “We believe that a young person’s life chances should not be determined by their postcode and are committed to finding new ways to engage with young people in isolated areas.”
On Track to Achieve uses world class athletes to empower young people in full time education to fulfil their potential.
The programme is targeted at students facing challenging personal circumstances or suffering from low levels of self-esteem and confidence.
Working in small groups, athlete mentors provide tailored support to enhance participants’ personal and social development.
The project was made possible following a significant Extra Award of £200,000 from the People’s Postcode Lottery.
