A 20-year-old rugby player was airlifted to hospital after being injured during a match at Corby Rugby Club.

Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance was called out at just before 6pm on Saturday, October 5, and landed on the pitch at 6.12pm.

A crew from East Midlands Ambulance Service was first on the scene, but the air ambulance was called out due to the potential severity of the injury.

A spokesman for the air ambulance said: “The patient, originally from Kent, had suffered a pelvic injury during the match.

“Air ambulance doctors and paramedics gave the patient much-needed pain relief, immobilised him and flew him to University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire for further treatment.”
