Corby pupil wins award in national photography competition

Chloe Burnham from Lodge Park Academy in Corby won the post-16 category in the National School Photography Awards 2016 (NSPA 2016) with her image entitled Cerulean.

The competition was re-launched by FSE Design in partnership with Jessops and Manfrotto in November 2015 for its second year running.

Schools from across the UK were invited to take part in the competition, with three levels of entry: primary, secondary and post-16, with each having a different theme.

Once entries closed on March 31, FSE Design spent several weeks shortlisting the photos to the top 35 per category from thousands of entries.

These photos were then presented to a panel at The Kettering Park Hotel for the final round of judging on April 29.

The judging panel was made up by Ian Savage, head of training and development at Jessops; Tony Hardacre, photographer for The Times education supplement; John Robertson, photographer for The Guardian; and Daniel Baxby, deputy headteacher at Wrenn Academy in Wellingborough.

The judges described Chloe’s Cerulean as: “Immediately and incredibly striking, technically brilliant...with fantastic post production work.”

Chloe was presented with her prizes provided by FSE Design, Jessops and Manfrotto on Tuesday (June 7).

She won a Jessops Academy photography course, Canon EOS 1300D twin lens camera, Manfrotto Befree aluminium tripod, advanced travel backpack and an A1 acrylic print of the winning image.

Other winners included Feversham Primary who won first place in the primary category as well as Lucy Stevens from Isambard Community School for the secondary category.
