A Corby man has been arrested in connection with the distribution of allegedly homophobic leaflets in a number of towns in the region.

The 53-year-old has been charged with a public order offence by police in Cambridgeshire.

Over the last few months people living in Rutland, Market Harborough, Stoke-on-Trent and other towns have reported having homophobic leaflets delivered through their letterboxes.

One of those seen delivering was said to be wearing a monk’s outfit.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: “We have arrested a 53-year-old man from Corby on suspicion of a section five public order offence (religious/racial).

“He has been bailed until January 20 to return to Huntingdon Police Station.”
