Corby Council is urging its tenants to clear rent arrears and offering help to get people back in the black.

During the week beginning Monday March 31, council tenants who have slipped behind with their payments are being asked to take advantage of the rent free week to clear their rent account, reduce outstanding rent arrears, make an arrangement to clear any further outstanding balances or pay other debt such as court costs.

The council’s housing officers will be contacting tenants who are in arrears to discuss their situation and offer advice.

Corby Council’s lead member for housing, Cllr Bob Eyles, said: “The annual rent free week is an ideal opportunity for tenants who have unfortunately fell behind with their payments to catch back up or substantially reduce what they owe without the pressure of paying extra.

“We understand that situations do change. There can be many reasons why some people may have difficulties paying their rent and we have a team of housing officers who will work with tenants and offer them support and advice to ensure their arrears are managed effectively. We would urge anyone that finds themselves in financial difficulties to please contact these officers as soon as possible, they are here to help.”

Tenants can contact Corby Council’s landlord services on 01536 464000.
