Cosmetics firm Avon has presented £5,000 to the Cransley Hospice after staff at its Corby office nominated it as their chosen charity.
Voting for Cransley Hospice was driven by Avon Corby associate Liz McWilliams whose dad was cared for by Cransley Hospice before he passed in May 2009.
Cransley Hospice is a nine bedded adult in-patient unit providing specialist palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses in the area of north Northamptonshire.
Although NHS funds underpin the cost of the hospice, the trust aims to raise £850,000 per year by charitable donations and fund raising activities to sustain the quality of care and to purchase additional services and benefits for the patients, to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
Liz McWilliams, Avon executive assistant, said: “Cransley Hospice is very close to my heart; my dad was cared for by the staff there for the last week of his life as my mum was no longer able to look after him herself at home.
“I was very pleased that it didn’t take too much encouragement from me for my Corby associates to get behind Cransley Hospice and vote for them in our Associate Choice scheme.
“Cransley Hospice relies on donations such as these so that they can continue the fantastic work they do so I was over the moon to hear that they had been successful in receiving the donation. It’s great to work for a company who give so much back to the local community and allow their employees to be a big part of that.”
Di Patrick, Fundraising Manager at Cransley Hospice, said: “All at Cransley Hospice are immensely grateful for the support from Avon Cosmetics.
“This donation could fund a Staff Nurse in Cransley Hospice for 20 twelve hour shifts.
“A Staff Nurse in the Hospice provides the highest quality of nursing care and support to the patient and their family during their hospice stay.
“We hope that this gives an indication to all associates at Avon Cosmetics of how important their support is to us and that we will use their donation wisely and to the benefit of many in the local community”
A spokesman for Avon said: “We are committed to improving lives and making a real difference both nationally and in the local community.
“Whether it be their long standing commitment to charity partners Breast Cancer Now, Refuge and Women’s Aid, with initiatives like Associates Choice or by empowering women with flexible careers through their Independent Representative opportunity.”
