Almost 100 people have signed up to a controversial new leisure centre’s gym in its first month of opening.
Desborough’s new £1.6m leisure centre, in Ironwood Avenue, opened at the start of May, after a series of delays and public fallout.
The upgraded centre has a large sports hall, multi games room, and a fitness centre, which has had 80 people sign up for it already.
Pia Bellamy, community services manager at the council. said: “It’s great news so many people have signed up for the gym at the centre.
“We’ve heard that the centre is already proving popular which is really good.”
The council pressed on with opening the centre in place of the town’s Hawthorns Leisure Centre despite 3,600 signatures in favour of the old centre staying open.
Attendance figures for the new centre will be discussed at the end of the month.
