VOLUNTEERS – from six-year-old Isabelle Brown to people in their 60s – rolled up their sleeves to ensure their church looks spic and span for Easter.
The annual spring clean at St John the Evangelist in Caldecott took place on Saturday.
A team of eight helpers worked inside the church, polishing pews, cleaning windows and dusting away cobwebs.
Outside another group of volunteers cut back brambles and ivy and ensured that the churchyard is looking neat. Refreshments were served after all the chores were completed.
Mary Davidson, one of the church wardens, said: “We have a wonderful group of people who look after the church, inside and out, throughout the year.
“However, once a year, before Easter, we make sure we get in to all the corners.
“We were really pleased with the turnout at the weekend and the church looks glorious. We appreciate everyone’s help.”
The church is being decorated this week with lilies and other flowers, donated by people in memory of their loved ones, in time for Easter services.
