Christmas lights turned on in Wellingborough

A firework display closed the Wellingborough Christmas lights switch-on event.

Despite the persistent rain and cold conditions, large crowds gathered in Market Street to watch Father Christmas help the Mayor of Wellingborough, Cllr Ken Harrington, and competition winner Emily Sivers, four, switch on the town’s Christmas lights.

Before the big switch-on there was entertainment from young singers and dancers from Croyland Primary School and Pulse Dance Studios, among others.

A snow machine helped to create a festive atmosphere at the Wellingborough Council and Wellingborough Business Improvement District organised event.

A fireworks display set off from the roof of the Swansgate Centre closed the proceedings just after 6pm.
