Towns are gearing up for the great Christmas lights switch-on.

Wellingborough is going to be transformed into a winter wonderland on Saturday, November 29, from 1.30pm and the show will include a giant snow globe, live reindeer and music from Beyonce, Jessie J and Take That tribute bands.

The lights are due to go on at around 6pm.

The event has been organised by the town’s Business Improvement District (Bid). Bid manager John Cable said: “We’ve got an action-packed event planned for the Christmas lights switch-on.”

A prize giveaway will also be carried out via smartphones, giving people at the event the chance to win an early Christmas present.

The lights will be turned on in Kettering on Thursday, November 27. The fun will begin at 4pm with a Christmas parade lead by the cast of the Lighthouse Theatre’s Aladdin from Santa’s grotto in the Newlands Centre to the Market Place. There will be live performances from 5pm with the switch-on at 6.30pm.

Kettering Council portfolio holder for community and culture Cllr Jan Smith said: “It will be fabulous to see a big crowd joining in for the lights switch on.”

The mayor of Rushden, Cllr Richard Lewis, will turn on the town’s Christmas lights at 4.30pm on Saturday, November 29. Santa will arrive at 1pm on his sleigh pulled by live reindeer. He will then be in his grotto until 4pm. There will also be live music, children’s fairground rides, charity stalls and lots more.

In Corby Willow Place has teamed up with Lakelands Hospice to hold a Light Up a Life ceremony on Thursday, November 27, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. People will be able to ddicate a light on the Christmas tree in memory of a loved one who has died of cancer.
