Young chess players from Wellingborough including some as young as seven won their age categories at this year's Northants Junior Congress held at the Malcolm Arnold Academy.
Now three boys from Redwell Junior School in the town will go on to compete at the London Junior Chess Championships.
Under the watchful eye of school coach John Warren, Pacey Gwynne was the under-eights winner, and his twin brother Tyler came runner-up and Seth Tsang went on to win the under-11s competition last Saturday.
Headteacher Sue Peel said: "We are thrilled and very proud of the boys.
To go from playing school chess to this is a real achievement, and we are grateful to their tutor and their parents for taking them to the competitions."
