Charity auction dedicated to memory of 27-year-old woman from Rushden

The Welcome Inn in Irchester Road, Rushden, is holding the auction from 8pm tonight (Friday) to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The pub holds a fundraiser every year in aid of the children’s hospital in London, and this event will be dedicated to Sophie Watford.

Sophie, who grew up in Rushden, died in January at the age of 27 after being diagnosed with stage three lung cancer last June.

Her uncle Steve Hadjuk said: “We are holding an auction for Great Ormond Street Hospital in memory of my niece.

“Sophie was 27 when she died in January.

“We do it every year because that’s where Sophie was treated for a number of years.

“The auction is tonight, it all starts at 8pm and the auction should be around 9pm.”

Lots in the auction include a number of football-related items, including several pairs of tickets for Premiership games and a voucher to attend an event at Santa Pod for two adults and six children.

Steve added: “We have also got a lot of prizes for the raffle that we have been running, including some electrical things.

“Every single penny we raise will go to Great Ormond Street.”

Steve said they had received lots of support from the local community, including raffle prizes donated by shops and supermarkets in the area.

He is hoping lots of people will also show their support by attending tonight’s fundraiser in memory of his niece.

Steve said: “She was the life and soul, that’s how she was.”
