People are being asked to help recognise and reward the work of the county’s carers.

Nominations are invited for the third Northamptonshire Jane Roebuck Carers Awards, which recognises the vital work carers do.

Mark Major, director of Northamptonshire Carers, said “These awards give us all such a valuable chance to recognise the immense contribution of the county’s unpaid carers.

“Caring situations can last for many years and the selflessness and dedication of carers is something of which we should all be proud.

“The awards give the chance to hear real stories of real people within our communities, who do something quite remarkable every day.”

Organisers of the awards want to hear about people who devote time to looking after someone else.

The categories are Young Carer of the Year for people under 18, Carer of the Year, Best GP Practice Supporting Carers and Best School Supporting Carers.

Michelle Stanton, of Northampton, winner of Carer of the Year 2011, said “The awards are a wonderful way of celebrating the county’s carers and the work they do for others.

“Carers don’t often receive any recognition for what they do, so events like these are a fantastic way of recognising the valuable care and support they give for another person.”

The awards ceremony will take place at Rushton Hall on Wednesday, January 30, next year, and nominations will be received until December 31.
